We Were Here Tomorrow Comes to Xbox This October

We Were Here Tomorrow Brings Time-Bending Co-Op Puzzles to Xbox This October

A strange new cooperative adventure is coming to Xbox Series X|S this October. We Were Here Tomorrow, the latest game from Total Mayhem Games, is expanding the series with time-based puzzles, asymmetric gameplay, a retro-futuristic research facility and a mysterious interdimensional rift.

The new trailer, highlighted by Xbox Wire on September 2, gives players a closer look at the environments and puzzles awaiting two-player teams inside Norček Industries.

The game keeps the communication-focused foundation that has defined the We Were Here series, but introduces new mechanics designed to make players think about space, time and cause-and-effect in completely different ways.

A Rescue Mission Leads to Norček Industries

The adventure begins in the frozen Antarctic landscape, where two explorers are searching for missing members of their expedition.

Things quickly go wrong.

The players eventually awaken inside the mysterious Norček Industries facility, a retro-futuristic research complex overseen by Director Kathleen Bowe.

Bowe presents herself as someone who can help the explorers understand what happened. However, the deeper players venture into the facility, the more questions emerge about her motives and the research taking place there.

At the center of Norček’s work is a mysterious interdimensional rift with potentially enormous consequences.

Exactly what is on the other side—and why the corporation is so interested in it—is part of the mystery players will uncover during the adventure.

Time Becomes Part of the Puzzle

One of the biggest changes in We Were Here Tomorrow is the way the game uses time.

The Greenhouse area shown in the new trailer may initially look familiar to returning We Were Here players. It contains references to locations, objects and plants from previous games.

But the two players don’t necessarily experience the environment at the same point in time.

An action taken by one player in the past can affect what the other player encounters in the future. Players can also switch between different points in time, forcing them to communicate carefully and understand how their actions are connected.

That makes the series’ familiar walkie-talkie communication mechanic even more important.

Players must describe what they see, compare information and experiment together to work out how events in one timeline affect another.

The Office of Tomorrow Warps the Rules

Not every puzzle requires players to remain completely separated.

The Office of Tomorrow introduces environments where traditional ideas about gravity and architecture begin to break down.

Instead of simply describing objects from separate rooms, players may need to navigate and experiment within a shared environment while figuring out how the unusual spaces work.

The approach gives Total Mayhem Games another way to challenge cooperative teams while preserving the communication that has become the series’ trademark.

The developer previously described We Were Here Tomorrow as an evolution of the franchise, with larger areas, new traversal mechanics and distinct tools and abilities for each player.

The Optics Lab Puts Communication to the Test

The Optics Lab delivers a more traditional We Were Here experience—but with an unusual twist.

Players can see each other, yet they aren’t actually occupying the same physical space.

Each player has different information needed to solve a laser-refraction puzzle. Seeing what the other person is doing doesn’t necessarily make the challenge easier. Instead, it can create another source of confusion if the players misunderstand what they are seeing or describing.

According to Total Mayhem Games Creative Director Martín Mittner, the Optics Lab is among the more difficult puzzles in the first act.

The solution requires players to carefully inspect their surroundings, communicate what they discover and coordinate the correct sequence of actions.

A Retro-Futuristic World Inspired by the 1980s

The setting is another major departure for the franchise.

Norček Industries combines science-fiction technology with an aesthetic inspired by 1980s retro-futurism. Earlier Xbox coverage described the game as a “cozy sci-fi” world influenced by cassette futurism, complete with nostalgic technology and a synthwave-inspired atmosphere.

That gives We Were Here Tomorrow a visual identity that is noticeably different from the icy environments and medieval settings associated with previous games.

The facility is also packed with secrets and references for longtime fans, while newcomers can experience the story without having played every previous entry.

What Lies Beyond the Rift?

Eventually, the expedition takes players toward the interdimensional rift at the heart of Norček Industries’ research.

Crossing through it leads somewhere completely different from the world players know.

Total Mayhem Games is keeping details about this area largely secret, suggesting that the discovery itself is intended to be one of the game’s major surprises.

That mystery also ties into the larger questions surrounding the facility: Why were the explorers brought there? What happened to the missing researchers? And what is Director Bowe really trying to accomplish?

Two Players, Two Perspectives

Communication remains the central mechanic.

Each player can have different information, tools and responsibilities, meaning neither person can simply solve every puzzle independently.

The earlier Xbox preview also highlighted upgraded walkie-talkie communication and proximity chat, along with distinct player tools and abilities.

That design is intended to create the kinds of cooperative moments that have become synonymous with We Were Here: confusion, failed attempts, sudden breakthroughs and the satisfaction of solving something together.

In other words, the game isn’t just asking players to solve puzzles.

It’s asking them to communicate well enough to solve them together.

We Were Here Tomorrow Launches on Xbox This October

We Were Here Tomorrow is scheduled to arrive on Xbox Series X|S in October 2026.

The new trailer provides a glimpse at the Greenhouse, Office of Tomorrow, Optics Lab and the mysterious area beyond the rift, but much of the game’s story remains under wraps.

For co-op fans looking for a puzzle adventure built around communication rather than traditional combat, We Were Here Tomorrow could offer a particularly interesting Xbox experience this fall.

Players will need to listen, describe what they see, experiment with their surroundings and trust their partner if they want to uncover the secrets hidden inside Norček Industries.

The biggest puzzle may not be figuring out what the facility is hiding—it may be figuring out how to communicate what you discovered to your partner.
