The Block’s Dan Takes Aim at Main Ensuites as Sarah-Jane Calleja Steps In for Pregnant Dani
The Block’s latest room critique delivered plenty of blunt opinions as foreman Dan took on the contestants’ main ensuites alongside former Block contestant Sarah-Jane Calleja, who stepped in for Dani while she was heavily pregnant during filming.
The series may be called Dan vs Dani, but this time it was effectively Dan vs Sarah-Jane as the pair inspected the Blockheads’ bathroom designs and decided which spaces worked — and which ones missed the mark.
With Dani and Dan expecting their son Fletcher “any day now” at the time of filming, Sarah-Jane joined Dan for the walkthrough while the teams pushed to finish their main ensuites.
The Block’s Season 22 schedule shows the main ensuite reveal taking place on August 30, following three episodes focused on the contestants’ ensuite builds.
Adam and Jolene’s ensuite leaves Dan confused
The first stop was Adam and Jolene’s unfinished main ensuite, where the design team had selected four different tile styles.
For Dan and Sarah-Jane, the number of competing tile choices was simply too much.
Sarah-Jane felt the selections did not work together, while Dan summed up his reaction bluntly.
“This room is very confusing for me.”
The unfinished state of the bathroom also made it difficult to see how the final design would come together.
Chantel and Wyatt’s bathroom gets a brutal review
Next came Chantel and Wyatt’s main ensuite, and Sarah-Jane wasted little time delivering her verdict.
She described the space as “the most elegant psych ward I’ve ever seen.”
Dan agreed that the room was “boring”, while Sarah-Jane followed up with another cutting description, calling it a total “snooze fest.”
The comments highlighted the challenge facing the contestants: creating a bathroom that feels luxurious and distinctive without becoming visually overwhelming.
Lisa and Rosco’s flooring divides opinion
Lisa and Rosco’s bathroom received a more mixed response.
The pair’s unusual flooring immediately caught Sarah-Jane’s attention. She compared the crazy-pavement look to a cobblestone alleyway from a Jack the Ripper story — and made it clear she did not mean that as a compliment.
However, the shower area received much more positive feedback.
That was until Dan spotted what he considered “the most ridiculous thing in the world.”
Exactly what caught his attention is something viewers will have to see in the walkthrough video.
House 4’s microcement wall raises questions
Courtney and Sev were hoping their microcement wall would make a strong impression, but Sarah-Jane was not convinced.
Instead, she suggested the unfinished-looking surface gave the impression that “you’re waiting for the man to come back and finish it.”
The criticism could prove significant as the contestants move closer to the all-important reveal, when the judges will assess how successfully each team has turned its design ideas into a finished bathroom.
Rick and Tayla face another awkward detail
Rick and Tayla also came under scrutiny during the walkthrough.
Sarah-Jane immediately noticed one major feature she wanted removed — describing it as a “big elephant in the room.”
The exact detail, like Dan’s discovery in Lisa and Rosco’s bathroom, is revealed in the video rather than the written preview.
Dan and Sarah-Jane choose their Week 4 Champs and Chumps
The walkthrough also saw Dan and Sarah-Jane name their Week 4 “Champs” and “Chumps”, giving viewers another indication of which contestants impressed them and which ones still have work to do.
Their assessments come as the Blockheads approach the main ensuite reveals, with the contestants under pressure to finish their bathrooms and make their designs work as complete spaces.
For Dan, the job was particularly timely. While he was still working alongside the teams, he and Dani were preparing for the arrival of their son Fletcher.
With the main ensuite reveals now arriving, the contestants’ biggest test is no longer simply whether their ideas sound good on paper — it is whether the finished rooms can impress the judges.
What happens next on The Block?
The focus now turns to the finished main ensuites and the judges’ verdicts. Season 22’s schedule lists the Main Ensuite Reveals for August 30.
The result will determine which Blockhead team turns its bathroom into a standout space — and which teams discover that some of Dan and Sarah-Jane’s harshest criticisms were justified.
