Why Isn’t Sara Haines on The View Today? What We Know
Sara Haines was noticeably absent from The View on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, prompting viewers to search for answers after the longtime co-host did not take her usual place at the Hot Topics table.
Whoopi Goldberg addressed the absence at the beginning of the episode, confirming that Haines was out for the day. However, the show did not publicly give a reason for her absence during the broadcast.
The lack of an explanation quickly became a talking point because Haines is one of the regular members of the show’s Season 30 panel.
What did The View say about Sara Haines?
Goldberg acknowledged Haines’ absence as the hosts took their places for Wednesday’s show.
According to reports on the broadcast, Goldberg said that Haines was out that day and suggested she could potentially return the following day.
Joy Behar then added an important clarification: Haines was not sick.
Beyond that, the hosts did not explain why Haines was away.
That means viewers should be cautious about assuming the absence was connected to an illness, family emergency or another specific situation. No such reason had been publicly confirmed as of the latest available reports.
Why is Sara Haines’ absence trending?
The timing is a major reason.
The View had only recently begun its milestone 30th season, with Haines returning to the Hot Topics table alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro. ABC had promoted the six-host lineup ahead of the September 8 season premiere.
Haines’ sudden absence therefore stood out to regular viewers.
The situation also generated attention because Goldberg acknowledged that Haines was missing without providing a detailed explanation, while Behar specifically reassured viewers that she was not sick. That combination left the immediate reason unanswered.
Is Sara Haines leaving The View?
There is no indication in the current reporting that Haines is leaving The View.
In fact, the show’s published schedule provides evidence that she remains part of the Season 30 lineup. The schedule lists a September 18 episode titled “The View” Celebrates Sara Haines’ Birthday, with Kenny Chesney also scheduled to appear.
That scheduled birthday episode is particularly relevant because it shows that the September 16 absence should not automatically be interpreted as a departure from the program.
Could Sara Haines return to The View?
Goldberg indicated that Haines might be back the following day, although she did not guarantee it.
The show’s schedule lists an episode for Thursday, September 17, featuring Ethan Hawke and a performance by Clay Aiken.
A separate episode listing also identifies Haines as part of the show’s Season 30 cast and includes the September 18 birthday episode.
Until the September 17 broadcast airs, however, her appearance should not be treated as confirmed simply because she was expected to return.
This is not the first time Haines has missed the show
Haines has previously been absent from The View for a variety of documented reasons.
In July 2026, she missed an episode after an emergency at her home involving serious water damage and a partially collapsed basement ceiling. She later discussed that incident on the Behind the Table podcast.
That earlier incident is not an explanation for the September 16 absence. There is currently no reliable reporting connecting the two events.
Haines has also missed the program on other occasions, including a 2025 absence that was attributed on-air to jury duty.
