Nicole Kidman Surprises Sydney Fans With Midnight Margaritas at Practical Magic 2 Screening
Nicole Kidman gave Australian fans an unforgettable surprise Friday night when she unexpectedly appeared at a Sydney cinema for a special preview screening of Practical Magic 2.
The Oscar-winning actress personally welcomed a packed audience at the Entertainment Quarter, where she handed out “midnight margaritas” and invited moviegoers to raise a glass with her ahead of the screening. Australian media reported that Kidman then moved through the theater as fans cheered and joined the toast.
The appearance came as Kidman returned to Australia during the promotional tour for the long-awaited sequel to the 1998 supernatural favorite.
Nicole Kidman Brings the Magic to Sydney
Addressing the audience, Kidman encouraged everyone to stand and raise their glasses before celebrating the return of the beloved franchise.
She also brought a message from her co-star Sandra Bullock, who reprises her role as Sally Owens alongside Kidman’s Gillian Owens.
Kidman told fans that Bullock was in Texas carrying out a similar appearance and sent her greetings to the Sydney crowd.
The actress also thanked audiences for supporting the original movie and returning nearly three decades later for the sequel.
“It’s really lovely 28 years later as women to be able to still be here,” Kidman told the crowd, expressing her gratitude for decades of support.
Kidman’s Witchy Look Gets Fans Talking
Kidman matched the evening’s magical theme with a striking ivory satin gown featuring lace detailing, a deep neckline and embroidered red roses.
The floral details appeared to echo the rose imagery associated with the original Practical Magic, adding another subtle connection to the 1998 film.
Her appearance came only days after the Los Angeles premiere of Practical Magic 2, where Kidman and Bullock also embraced the film’s distinctive witchy fashion aesthetic.
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman Return
Practical Magic 2 reunites Kidman and Bullock as sisters Gillian and Sally Owens, nearly 30 years after the original film.
The sequel is directed by Susanne Bier and features returning stars alongside newcomers including Joey King, Maisie Williams, Lee Pace and Xolo Maridueña. The official movie site says the story once again follows the Owens family as the sisters face a dangerous magical curse.
The original Practical Magic has developed a strong cult following since its 1998 release, making the return of Kidman and Bullock one of the more anticipated nostalgic movie reunions of 2026.
Bullock has also suggested that another sequel could potentially happen if Practical Magic 2 performs well, although there is no confirmed Practical Magic 3 at this stage.
When Does Practical Magic 2 Release?
Practical Magic 2 is scheduled to arrive in Australian cinemas on September 10, 2026, while the film’s international rollout begins September 9 in some markets. The official movie site lists Warner Bros. Pictures as the distributor.
For Australian fans, Kidman’s surprise Sydney appearance offered an early taste of the movie’s “midnight margarita” theme, with preview events also being promoted by Australian cinemas ahead of the theatrical release.
With Kidman and Bullock back as the Owens sisters, the sequel is now just days away from bringing the magic back to the big screen.
