EA Sports NHL 27 Early Access Is Live With EA Play’s 10-Hour Trial

Hockey fans can now get an early look at EA SPORTS NHL 27 through EA Play. Electronic Arts has launched a 10-hour early access trial for members beginning September 4, giving players a chance to experience the new season before the game’s worldwide launch on September 11.

The trial gives EA Play members access to several of NHL 27’s biggest new features, including the new Connected Franchise mode, redesigned arena atmospheres and an overhauled broadcast presentation. Players who purchase the full game can carry their progress from the trial forward.

EA’s latest NHL entry is designed around a stronger sense of team identity, with all 32 NHL arenas receiving presentation and atmosphere upgrades. The game is available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

NHL 27’s 10-Hour EA Play Trial Is Now Available

EA Play members can play NHL 27 for up to 10 hours during the early access trial that began September 4. The trial provides an opportunity to test the game before its September 11 worldwide release.

The trial is separate from the seven-day early access offered with the Deluxe Edition. Players who pre-order the Deluxe Edition can play from September 4 through September 10, while the EA Play trial provides up to 10 hours of gameplay.

For players who decide to buy NHL 27 after trying it, progress from the EA Play trial carries over to the full game.

Connected Franchise Is One of the Biggest Additions

One of the headline features in NHL 27 is Connected Franchise, a new online league experience built around playing with friends.

Players can create a league, build and manage rosters, schedule games and compete across a full online season. The mode supports up to 32 human-controlled teams and includes customizable league settings and commissioner tools.

That means groups of friends can effectively build their own online hockey league rather than simply playing individual matches.

Commissioners can also create leagues, distribute League IDs and invite players directly, while managers get tools for trades and free-agent decisions.

All 32 NHL Arenas Get an Atmosphere Upgrade

EA is also putting significant emphasis on presentation.

NHL 27 features redesigned versions of all 32 NHL arenas, with team-specific details intended to make each venue feel more distinctive. Authentic goal songs, crowd chants, arena details, lighting and jumbotrons are among the additions highlighted by EA.

The presentation is designed to react more dynamically to the action, giving home arenas a stronger connection to their respective teams.

For long-time NHL players, that could make games feel less like matches taking place in interchangeable stadiums and more like individual NHL events.

NHL 27 Introduces a Refreshed Broadcast Package

The broadcast presentation has also received a major overhaul.

EA says NHL 27 features new broadcast graphics, updated camera work and additional on-screen storytelling designed to provide more information before games, during stoppages and through highlights.

The new commentary team includes John Buccigross and Darren Pang, adding another major change to the game’s broadcast experience.

EA has described the presentation changes as part of a broader effort to give every NHL team’s identity a stronger presence on the ice, in the arena and during broadcasts.

Team Identity Goes Beyond Presentation

The changes aren’t limited to visuals.

NHL 27 introduces 32 unique Team Playbooks powered by NHL EDGE data, designed to make teams play with more distinct strategies. EA says the systems cover areas including breakouts, special teams and late-game strategy.

The result should be a greater difference between opponents, with team tendencies influencing how individual matchups play out.

EA Play Members Also Get Monthly Rewards

NHL 27 isn’t the only benefit available to EA Play members in September.

Members can receive seasonal NHL 27 rewards, including 3,000 World of Chel Coins and World of Chel Season Pass XP Multiplier Tokens. EA’s current member-benefits information lists these NHL 27 rewards as available from September 4 through November 18.

EA Play also provides a 10% discount on eligible EA digital purchases, including game downloads, NHL Points and DLC.

September’s broader EA Play rewards include items for games such as Apex Legends, Madden NFL 27, EA Sports College Football 27 and Battlefield 6.

When Does NHL 27 Fully Release?

EA SPORTS NHL 27 launches worldwide on September 11, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Players who want to start earlier have two main options: the EA Play 10-hour trial or the Deluxe Edition’s seven-day early access period.

For hockey fans still deciding whether NHL 27 is worth buying, the EA Play trial offers a straightforward way to experience the game’s biggest changes before committing to the full release.

The Bottom Line

NHL 27 is now playable through EA Play’s 10-hour early access trial, giving members an early opportunity to test Connected Franchise, the redesigned arenas and the revamped broadcast presentation.

With the full game arriving September 11, the trial could be particularly useful for players who want to see whether this year’s focus on team identity and online franchise play delivers a meaningful step forward.
