Mighty Mike Plays: How a $20 YouTube Ad Reportedly Turned Into a $118,000 Bill

A 9-year-old gaming creator known as Mighty Mike Plays is suddenly trending after his father said a small $20 experiment to promote Minecraft and Roblox videos escalated into approximately $118,000 in YouTube advertising charges.

The story gained widespread attention after the boy’s father, identified as Dave, described the situation in a video posted to the Mighty Mike Plays YouTube channel. According to his account, Mike continued creating advertising campaigns after watching his father set up the original promotion.

The spending allegedly continued for about three weeks before Dave’s employer discovered the charges on a company credit card assigned to him. The $118,000 total and other details of the incident have not been independently verified.

Why Mighty Mike Plays Is Trending Now

The story began circulating widely on September 15 and 16, 2026, after Dave publicly explained how an attempt to help his son get more views allegedly turned into a six-figure advertising bill.

The unusual combination of a young YouTube creator, Minecraft and Roblox videos, a company credit card and a reported $118,000 in advertising spending quickly pushed Mighty Mike Plays into online discussion.

The story is also drawing attention because viewers had reportedly encountered lengthy Mighty Mike Plays gaming videos appearing as YouTube advertisements before Dave’s explanation became widely known.

It reportedly started with a $20 campaign

According to Dave’s account, Mike had become frustrated that his gaming videos were not getting enough views or subscribers.

Dave said he helped his son set up a small YouTube advertising campaign with a budget of about $20. The purpose was straightforward: promote one of Mike’s videos and see whether paid advertising could bring in more viewers.

But after seeing how the advertising system worked, Mike allegedly returned to the tools and began launching additional campaigns himself.

Dave said the child’s apparent thinking was simple: spending more money would lead to more views.

A company card was reportedly still connected to the account

According to the father’s explanation, the major problem was that a company credit card had already been saved to the Google account connected to the advertising tools.

That reportedly allowed the additional campaigns to continue charging to the card.

Dave said he had not set spending limits or sufficient controls that would have prevented Mike from creating more campaigns. He later acknowledged responsibility for leaving the payment method accessible, according to reports covering the video.

The reported spending continued for three weeks

Dave said he was eventually called into a meeting involving his manager, company representatives and finance staff.

During that meeting, he was reportedly shown advertising charges totaling approximately $118,000 from the previous three weeks.

The campaigns were connected to videos promoting content associated with Mighty Mike Plays, including Minecraft and Roblox gameplay.

Dave also said some of the promoted videos reached roughly 200,000 views. That exposure, however, came with an advertising cost far beyond the original $20 experiment.

What happens to Mighty Mike Plays now?

As of September 16, Dave had not publicly confirmed whether his employer would require repayment or whether the incident could affect his job.

The family has reportedly discussed adding stronger safeguards, including removing saved payment information, introducing spending limits and using parental controls.

Dave also indicated that the Mighty Mike Plays channel could be paused while the family deals with the situation and puts new restrictions in place.

The reported $118,000 total remains based on the father’s public account and has not been independently verified.

The viral moment that helped spread the story

The story also produced a moment that spread quickly across social media and news coverage.

When Mike was reportedly asked if he had anything to say about what happened, his response was that he was “definitely cooked.”

That reaction, combined with the enormous gap between the original $20 advertising experiment and the alleged $118,000 total, helped turn a family problem into one of the internet’s most talked-about creator stories.

For now, the key unanswered questions are what Dave’s employer decides and whether Mighty Mike Plays will continue after the family introduces new controls.
