Marché du Film 2026 Expands AI, Creator Economy and Immersive Focus at Cannes

The future of filmmaking is arriving fast—and Cannes is making sure it stays at the center of it.

As the global film industry evolves, the Marché du Film 2026 is doubling down on innovation, blending cinema with technology, creators, and immersive experiences.

Set to run from May 12 to May 20 alongside the Cannes Film Festival, the industry’s largest film market is introducing a sharper focus on how films are created, financed, and distributed in a digital-first era.

A Strong Push Toward Innovation

The Marché du Film, long regarded as a key marketplace for global cinema, has confirmed the return of its AI for Talent Summit and unveiled plans for its first-ever Creator Economy Summit.

These initiatives reflect a broader shift within the industry, where traditional filmmaking is increasingly intersecting with digital creators, artificial intelligence, and new audience engagement models.

Guillaume Esmiol, Executive Director of the Cannes market, emphasized this direction, stating that innovation today goes beyond technology—it also reshapes business models, partnerships, and how stories reach audiences worldwide.

Creator Economy Meets Cinema

The newly introduced Creator Economy Summit will explore how digital creators and filmmakers can collaborate.

The event aims to bridge the gap between online content and theatrical storytelling—highlighting areas such as adapting digital intellectual property into films, discovering emerging talent, and building audience-driven marketing strategies.

This move builds on Cannes’ earlier embrace of the creator ecosystem. Notably, TikTok became the festival’s first digital-media sponsor in 2022, signaling a growing recognition of creator-led platforms in shaping modern entertainment.

AI Takes Center Stage

The AI for Talent Summit, returning for its second edition, will take place over two days (May 15–16) and is expected to gather leading executives from both the film and technology sectors.

The discussions will focus on three critical areas:

  • Integrating AI into production workflows
  • Ethical and responsible use of AI
  • Education and upskilling for industry professionals

As artificial intelligence tools become more embedded in filmmaking—from script development to post-production—the summit aims to provide practical insights into real-world applications.

A Revamped Digital Marketplace

A major upgrade is also coming to the market’s digital infrastructure.

Cinando, the networking and database platform launched by the Marché in 2003, has been relaunched with enhanced features. For 2026, the entire online experience will transition to a unified platform called Marché du Film by Cinando.

This system will integrate online screenings, conference content, and networking tools into a single ecosystem—designed to streamline collaboration for buyers, sales agents, and industry professionals across the globe.

Immersive and Virtual Experiences Expand

The Marché is also expanding its focus on immersive storytelling and virtual production.

The Village Innovation will return as the hub for Cannes Next, featuring hands-on demonstrations on what is being described as the largest virtual production stage ever presented at a film market.

Meanwhile, the Immersive Market will expand into the Carlton Hotel, introducing a new demo space and hosting live presentations from around 150 immersive content producers. These will be showcased to approximately 90 leading distributors and curators.

In parallel, Cannes will debut its first-ever immersive competition designed specifically for shared audience experiences, with a venue capable of hosting up to 225 participants at once.

Why This Matters

The changes highlight a clear trend: the film industry is no longer confined to traditional formats.

From AI-driven production tools to creator-led storytelling and location-based immersive experiences, the definition of cinema is rapidly expanding. Cannes, through the Marché du Film, is positioning itself as a central hub for these transformations.

For filmmakers, studios, and tech companies alike, this evolution offers new opportunities—but also demands adaptability in a competitive, tech-driven landscape.

What’s Next

With its 2026 edition, the Marché du Film is not just reflecting industry change—it is actively shaping it.

As technology continues to redefine how stories are told and consumed, Cannes is making a clear statement: the future of cinema will be collaborative, immersive, and deeply connected to innovation.
