Jordan Love Leads Packers Into Thursday Night Football

Date:

Jordan Love entered Week 3 as one of the key names surrounding the Green Bay Packers as they prepared to host the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday Night Football.

Green Bay came into the September 24 matchup with a 1-1 record, while Atlanta was 0-2. Love had thrown for 532 yards and four touchdowns through the Packers’ first two games, putting the quarterback at the center of attention heading into the primetime matchup.

The game was scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET at Lambeau Field and streamed on Prime Video.

Jordan Love’s Strong Statistical Start

Love’s first two games of the 2026 season offered a sharp contrast in results.

Against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1, Love threw for 387 yards and two touchdowns despite Green Bay’s 39-22 loss. A week later, he threw another two touchdown passes as the Packers rallied from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the New York Jets 20-17 in overtime.

Love finished the Jets game with 145 passing yards, leaving him with 532 yards and four touchdowns through two weeks. Official Packers statistics list him at 37 completions on 71 attempts, with a 52.1% completion rate, one interception and an 89.6 passer rating entering Week 3.

That combination of high production in Week 1 and a more difficult passing outing against New York helped make Love an important storyline heading into Thursday night.

The Packers Needed More From the Passing Game

Green Bay’s offensive situation added to Love’s importance.

The Packers had struggled to establish a consistent rushing attack during the opening two games. Official team statistics showed Green Bay’s primary backs had combined for limited production, while Love remained the focal point of the passing offense.

The offensive line was another storyline. Reports ahead of the game pointed to injuries and changes along the line, creating an important matchup against an Atlanta defense that could put pressure on the quarterback.

Love also had a productive group of receiving options. Christian Watson entered the matchup with 188 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while Matthew Golden had 153 receiving yards through two games.

Why Jordan Love Was Trending

The immediate reason for the attention around Love was Thursday Night Football itself.

With Green Bay playing at home and Atlanta entering at 0-2, the game represented an early-season opportunity for the Packers to build on their overtime win against the Jets.

Love’s numbers also made him a natural search topic. He had already produced one 300-plus-yard game and four touchdown passes in two weeks, while the Packers’ uneven offensive production left questions about whether the passing game could remain effective against Atlanta.

Atlanta also entered the matchup with a quarterback storyline of its own, as Michael Penix Jr. was returning to the lineup. The NFL identified the Packers-Falcons quarterback matchup as one of the central questions surrounding the Week 3 game.

What We Knew Before Kickoff

The central question surrounding Jordan Love was whether Green Bay could turn his early passing production into more consistent offensive output.

The Packers had demonstrated that Love could produce big numbers, but the opening two games also showed the difference between statistical production and offensive consistency. Green Bay scored 22 points against Minnesota and needed overtime to defeat the Jets after managing only 199 total yards in that game.

Protection was another factor. Reports before kickoff highlighted the Packers’ offensive-line situation, including the absence of guard Aaron Banks because of knee and toe injuries.

For Love, the Falcons matchup therefore offered another test of how effectively Green Bay could protect its quarterback and create opportunities through the passing game.

What Happens Next for Jordan Love

The next major development is Love’s performance in the Packers-Falcons matchup and how Green Bay’s offense responds.

His first two games established the statistical baseline: 532 passing yards, four touchdowns and one interception entering Week 3.

A strong performance against Atlanta could keep Love at the center of NFL search interest heading into Week 4, while another difficult offensive outing would put greater attention on Green Bay’s consistency, rushing attack and offensive-line play.

For now, the Love storyline is primarily being driven by live NFL action: a young season, a quarterback producing significant numbers and a Packers offense still trying to find a consistent rhythm.
