Gravhounds Revealed for Xbox Game Pass in November

Gravhounds Turns Bio-Engineered Dogs Into Galactic Workers in a Chaotic New Co-Op Game

A new co-op action game starring bio-engineered working dogs is heading to Xbox this fall. Gravhounds, the debut title from seven-person independent studio Octopus Panic, was revealed at gamescom and is scheduled to enter Game Preview on November 2, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. It will also be available day one through Xbox Game Pass.

The game puts players in the paws of genetically engineered canine workers stranded on the far side of the galaxy. Their mission is straightforward on paper: complete dangerous jobs, gather valuable resources, build an operational base and find a way home.

In practice, things are expected to get considerably messier.

What Is Gravhounds?

Developed by Octopus Panic, Gravhounds is a 1–4 player co-op action builder that combines combat, resource gathering, base construction and physics-driven gameplay. Players can tackle missions alone or work together as a pack.

The studio says the game was built around the idea of dogs becoming the perfect industrial workforce in a distant future. The result is a sci-fi setting where canine workers are sent to dangerous alien planets while an onboard AI supervisor named COSMO continues assigning them jobs.

Each mission revolves around landing on a hostile world, establishing an operation, collecting what the team needs and escaping before the situation becomes overwhelming.

From Halo and Battlefield Veterans to a Seven-Person Studio

Octopus Panic may be small, but its developers have experience working on considerably larger productions.

According to the studio, members of the seven-person team have previously worked on major franchises and games including Halo, Battlefield and Star Wars, as well as Full Spectrum Warrior, Def Jam: Fight for NY and The Saboteur.

The team says it created Octopus Panic specifically to return to a smaller development environment where experimentation and player-driven systems could take priority.

That philosophy appears to be central to Gravhounds.

Every Mission Can Spiral Out of Control

The basic gameplay loop sounds simple: accept a job, land on a dangerous planet, build an operation, collect resources or technology and escape.

The longer players remain on a planet, however, the more complicated the situation becomes.

Teams may have to repair defenses, transport resources, rescue teammates and decide whether it is worth staying longer for additional rewards. The game’s risk-reward structure encourages players to push deeper into dangerous environments while knowing that doing so can make extraction increasingly difficult.

That creates one of the game’s central tensions: how much can the team collect before staying becomes too dangerous?

The Grav Beam Is More Than a Tool

One of the defining mechanics is the Grav Beam, an industrial device that lets players manipulate objects and resources around the environment.

Players can use it to move equipment, transport resources, place construction kits and interact with objects. But the same physics system can also become a weapon.

Objects can be thrown at enemies, resources can be passed between teammates and smaller creatures can reportedly be pulled out of combat. That means players are encouraged to use the environment rather than relying exclusively on conventional weapons.

The physics-driven approach is one of the features Octopus Panic is using to create unpredictable co-op situations.

Building and Combat Happen at the Same Time

Base construction isn’t designed as a separate preparation phase.

Players establish pipelines that carry power across hostile terrain while deploying structures such as turrets, generators and fabricators. Extending the operation can open access to better resources and objectives, but it also creates more infrastructure that needs to be defended.

That makes construction part of the action rather than an interruption to it.

A team might need to expand its pipeline to reach a valuable resource, only to discover that the new position is much harder to defend.

Reward Pods Let Players Build Their Own Loadouts

As players progress through a mission, Gravhounds uses randomized Reward Pods to provide weapons and upgrades.

Players can specialize in areas such as mobility, firepower or defense, or combine different bonuses to create more unusual builds. As upgrades accumulate, the Gravhounds become more powerful while the hostile forces continue escalating.

This creates another layer of decision-making during each shift: players aren’t simply surviving the same encounter repeatedly, but gradually developing a build around the circumstances of the mission.

Fast Movement Could Be Key to Survival

Every Gravhound also has an industrial propulsion rig that allows players to boost in multiple directions, jump, hover and rapidly reposition during combat.

The movement system becomes even more important when players reach the pipeline. The rig can be supercharged while traveling along it, allowing Gravhounds to move rapidly between different areas of their operation.

For a co-op game where multiple problems can appear simultaneously, that mobility could be crucial.

Why Gravhounds Could Stand Out

The combination of co-op combat, construction, resource extraction, physics-based interaction and risk-reward progression gives Gravhounds a broader gameplay loop than a straightforward shooter.

The developers have also emphasized that they want players to discover unexpected solutions rather than follow a rigid sequence of actions. That means teamwork and improvisation are intended to be as important as shooting accurately.

Other coverage of the gamescom reveal has similarly described the game as a co-op action builder combining base defense, extraction-style objectives and physics-driven combat.

For players who enjoy games where a carefully planned mission can suddenly become a frantic rescue operation, that unpredictability may be one of Gravhounds’ biggest attractions.

Gravhounds Release Date and Game Pass Details

Gravhounds will enter Game Preview on November 2, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. The game is also scheduled to be available day one with Xbox Game Pass.

The Game Preview approach is particularly significant because Octopus Panic says it wants to continue developing the game alongside its player community. The studio expects player experimentation, balance and co-op interactions to play an important role as development continues.

The game is also playable at gamescom through the ID@Xbox booth in Hall 7.

For now, the biggest question is whether Octopus Panic’s unusual combination of working dogs, alien planets, construction systems and physics-based chaos can translate into a consistently fun co-op experience.

Players won’t have to wait too long to find out.

Gravhounds arrives in Game Preview on November 2, 2026, with day-one Xbox Game Pass availability.
