Dolly Parton’s Nephew Removed From Security Role as Estate Tensions Rise

Dolly Parton’s nephew Bryan Seaver has been removed from his longtime position overseeing security at the late country music icon’s properties, according to a termination notice obtained by TMZ.

Seaver, who announced Parton’s death on Aug. 25, reportedly received notice that he and his security companies were immediately dismissed from the singer’s properties. The change affects several locations, including Parton’s main Nashville residence, museum, downtown residence and warehouse.

The move comes less than a month after Parton died at age 80. Her official website confirmed her death in Nashville on Aug. 25 and identified Seaver as the family member who delivered the public announcement.

Bryan Seaver Says the Decision Was Unexpected

Seaver is the son of Parton’s sister Cassie Parton and had reportedly served as his aunt’s head of security for more than two decades. His father, Larry Seaver, previously held the security position.

Following his removal, Seaver and his team criticized the decision and pointed to Parton’s longtime manager Danny Nozell and Pinnacle Bank.

In a statement reported by TMZ, the security team said it was “dismayed by the unexpected and, so far, unexplained actions” taken following Parton’s death. They also said they remained committed to protecting her family and carrying out what they described as her final wishes.

The statement included allegations that the actions were being taken in bad faith and for financial reasons. Those are claims made by Seaver and his team and have not been independently established.

The Digginator is not suggesting that Nozell, Pinnacle Bank or anyone else involved in the estate has engaged in wrongdoing.

DP Dean Trust Controls Parton’s Properties and Business Interests

According to the termination notice reported by TMZ, Parton’s properties and professional business interests are controlled by the DP Dean Trust.

The notice reportedly ended Seaver’s security responsibilities but did not remove his personal interest in the trust. That distinction is significant because losing a professional role does not necessarily mean losing a financial or beneficiary interest connected to an estate or trust.

The latest reports do not publicly establish the full details of Parton’s estate plan or how her assets will ultimately be distributed.

That leaves many questions surrounding the management of her business interests, properties and other assets still unanswered.

Parton Had Planned Her Estate

The developments are particularly notable because Parton had previously spoken publicly about the importance of estate planning.

In a 2020 Billboard interview, Parton discussed preparing her affairs and said she did not want to leave her family with disputes over her estate.

“I would not want to leave that mess to somebody else,” she said, advising other artists to make provisions for their estates.

Parton’s comments came in the context of high-profile estate disputes involving entertainers who died without clear arrangements.

Her longtime manager Danny Nozell was also involved in discussions about Parton’s legacy and business planning, according to reporting from the time.

How Much Was Dolly Parton’s Fortune Worth?

The exact value of Parton’s estate has not been publicly established.

Forbes had estimated her net worth at about $450 million, while other estimates published after her death have placed the value higher.

The frequently cited $600 million figure should not be treated as a confirmed estate value. Some reporting has used figures in that range for Parton’s lifetime charitable giving rather than the value of the assets she left behind.

Parton’s wealth was built through decades of songwriting, music publishing, recordings, business ventures, licensing and entertainment investments, including her connection to Dollywood.

Her music catalog was particularly important to her financial success. Parton wrote major hits including “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You,” the latter becoming a massive global hit through Whitney Houston’s recording.

What Happens to the Estate Now?

For now, the reported termination of Seaver’s security companies represents a change in who controls physical security at several Parton properties, not a public determination about who will ultimately inherit her fortune.

Parton died without children, and her husband, Carl Dean, died in 2025. Her estate documents and the full details of her distribution plans have not been made public.

The next significant developments are likely to involve further disclosures about the DP Dean Trust, the management of Parton’s businesses and properties, and any publicly available estate or court filings.

For now, the security change involving Seaver is confirmed through the reported termination notice, while the broader claims about an escalating estate dispute remain allegations rather than established findings.
