24 Jump Street Gets December 2027 Release Date as Sony Finally Sets Franchise Return

Sony has officially put 24 Jump Street on its theatrical calendar, giving the long-awaited third movie in the Jump Street franchise a firm U.S. release date.

The film is scheduled to open in theaters on December 10, 2027, according to Sony’s latest release-date changes reported on September 30, 2026.

The announcement explains why “24 Jump Street” is suddenly trending in Google searches. After years of development uncertainty following 2014’s 22 Jump Street, audiences now have a specific date to mark on the calendar.

24 Jump Street release date confirmed

Sony has set December 10, 2027 as the theatrical release date for 24 Jump Street. The movie will arrive more than 13 years after 22 Jump Street opened in June 2014.

The date is part of a broader Sony release-calendar update that also includes Treasure Island, The Surgeon and Narcs, while other projects have been moved to different dates.

For Jump Street fans, however, the biggest development is that the third movie is no longer simply a project in development. Sony has now assigned it a theatrical slot.

Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube are returning

The new film is expected to reunite the franchise’s central stars.

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are returning as undercover police partners Greg Jenko and Morton Schmidt, while Ice Cube is set to reprise his role as Captain Dickson. Recent reporting says the trio is officially attached to the new movie.

The creative team also includes familiar franchise names. Rodney Rothman, who co-wrote 22 Jump Street, is directing the third movie and co-wrote the screenplay with Hill and Meghan Malloy. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, directors of the first two movies, are returning as producers alongside Neal H. Moritz and others.

Sony has not yet revealed the full cast or the movie’s plot.

Why is it called 24 Jump Street?

One of the biggest questions surrounding the project has always been its unusual title.

The franchise is moving from 21 Jump Street to 22 Jump Street and then directly to 24 Jump Street, skipping 23 Jump Street.

That is intentional.

The filmmakers had previously developed a proposed 23 Jump Street, including a version involving a crossover with Men in Black, but that project never reached theaters. The new film’s title plays into the franchise’s long-running self-aware humor about endlessly producing sequels.

When the new project was announced in June, producer Neal H. Moritz shared an image of the screenplay that joked about the long wait and the decision to skip a number.

The franchise has been waiting since 2014

The original 21 Jump Street arrived in 2012, followed by 22 Jump Street in 2014.

Both movies centered on Schmidt and Jenko, two police officers repeatedly sent undercover because of their youthful appearances. The films turned the premise of the 1980s television series into an R-rated action comedy starring Hill and Tatum.

The third movie has been discussed for years, but several versions failed to reach production. The previously discussed Men in Black crossover was ultimately abandoned, while another standalone sequel remained in development.

The June 2026 announcement therefore represented a significant change, but the December 10, 2027 release date is the newest development that has pushed the movie back into the spotlight.

What we know about 24 Jump Street so far

Sony has confirmed the theatrical date, while the movie’s detailed story remains under wraps.

Rodney Rothman is directing and co-writing the screenplay with Jonah Hill and Meghan Malloy. Hill, Tatum and Ice Cube are attached to return, with Lord, Miller and Moritz among the producers.

There is currently no announced trailer, full plot synopsis or complete supporting cast.

For now, the key date is December 10, 2027, when 24 Jump Street is scheduled to return the franchise to movie theaters.
